Dear Squishy,
I woke up this morning and my wife asks me, “When were chonis invented, and why do we have to wear them?” I am hoping you can point my wife in the right direct direction for this answer. Thanks.

#squishytalk: Thank you for your question, I did some research and it seems as though this concept started back in the 1400’s with loin cloths and have evolved over time, using a variety of materials, styles, and attempts to suite the people. It wasn’t until the cotton industry boomed in the 20th century that Hanes took the monopoly.

Why do we have to wear chonis? Well we technically don’t have too. They were created to protect outer clothing because back in the day people only had a few garments to wear, one outfit for Sunday, and no washing machines, so it was easier to clean the undergarments then it was the clothing. In today’s modern world we have these luxuries and can wash our clothes often. My favorite reading that I will leave you with as to why you might wear chonis: Urinary and/or fecal incontinence can occur for several reasons — illness, surgery, medication, pregnancy, coughing, the three beers and the jalapeno and bean burrito you had for lunch, etc. There’s also the saying, “Never trust a fart over fifty.” Then there’s the leakage that can occur due to sexual arousal. Also a woman’s monthly flow.

With that said please tell ur wife she doesn’t have to wear chonis if she is not concerned with the above mentioned incidents!

Thank u for thinking of me!
