Condoms, gloves and dental dams are used to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STI) and diseases in your squishy. Condoms can prevent pregnancy as well. These barriers prevent the exposure of body fluids, that may be infected with an STI, to mucous membrane like vaginal walls, the mouth or anus. It can also prevent body fluids from getting into cuts or sores.
Dental dams were originally used by dentists during oral surgery; however, they have been adopted as a safer sex tool. It is a piece of latex that can be placed over the vaginal area or anus when performing oral stimulation. You can also use saran wrap or cut one side of a condom and unroll it out to be in the same shape as a dental dam. Saran wrap is a great and accessible barrier that can allow more heat and it doesn’t have to be stretched out. There is nothing worse when you put some lube on a latex dental damn and your trying to stretch it out in hopes that you don’t lose your grip and snap your partner. The other nice thing about saran wrap is that many people have that in the kitchen already or you can pick some up at the corner store.
Gloves are used to prevent getting body fluids into cut cuticles, open wounds on your hands or for fisting. Gloves come in latex and non-latex materials. I want lump finger cots into this section too, which is like a condom for your finger. You can purchase finger cots or cut a finger of a glove and roll it onto your finger to have the same outcome.
Condoms come in a variety of materials, colors, textures, and flavors. Condoms are used to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and can prevent pregnancy. Condoms are made in latex, polyurethane, lambskin, and polyisoprene. Lambskin condoms do not prevent the transmission of HIV and should only be used to prevent pregnancy. However, you can use any of the condoms made of other materials to prevent STI’s. Condoms also come in a different textures like studded or ribbed to increase sensation during intercourse. One thing you may want to consider is that these textures can also irritate your squishy, so you should talk about it with your partner. Colors don’t matter so much, but when a condom is flavored it can cause vaginal infections. They are best used for oral sex. The other condom to consider is the receptive condom, which is also call the female condom. This condom can be inserted into a vagina or anus. So it is important to know about the different kinds of condoms out there because there aren’t any universal condoms or one size fits all. They come in a variety of sizes too, but one thing to know about a latex condom is that it can be stretched over the size of a human head. Also, men can masturbate with condoms to control the sensation, find one that fits his anatomy, and to figure out which one works best for him.
There are a variety of tools that we can use to protect ourselves. And the more that we know about these safer sex tools and barriers to prevent the transmission of STI’s. Stay tuned this week for more info on condoms and barriers. #squishytalk
